Mattel’s Patent for a Fold-Out, Handheld Yu-Gi-Oh! Video Game

U.S. Design Pat. No. D490,859 depicts a handheld video game toy for the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. While Mattel’s patent writer in this case doesn’t mention Yu-Gi-Oh by name, there is no mistaking the pyramid-shaped eye iconography that is central to the toy’s aesthetic.

This patent would seemingly relate to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Electronic Multi-Master Handheld Game produced and distributed by Mattel in 2003. Interestingly enough, the five games included on the rudimentary handheld have little to do with the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise. Instead, there is a version of Tetris, two top-scrolling shooters, a simplified version of Frogger, and a simplified Breakout clone.
